BioFAIR Link to BioFAIR
BioFAIR is the UK’s national digital research infrastructure for the life sciences, making biological data easier to find, access, share and reuse. Funded by UKRI through BBSRC and MRC, and hosted at the Earlham Institute on Norwich Research Park, BioFAIR is building the connective tissue that lets researchers, data stewards and software engineers work with life science data that is genuinely FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable).
We operate as a Hub-and-Spoke programme. The Hub provides oversight on shared standards, platforms and expertise, while Spokes deliver community-driven capabilities across the UK life science landscape. Our first Spoke, the Methods Commons, is creating a home for reproducible, shareable analysis workflows. Our Knowledge Hub and Data Commons will follow later in 2026.
For the RSE community, BioFAIR is a natural partner. Turning biological data into AI-ready, reproducible research depends on well-engineered software: robust pipelines, versioned workflows, sustainable tooling and open, interoperable standards. These are the skills RSEs bring, and the outcomes BioFAIR exists to enable.
We’re also actively growing the community. Our Fellowship Programme supports emerging leaders working at the intersection of data, software and the life sciences, while our Pathfinder Projects demonstrate FAIR practice in real research settings.

The Alan Turing Institute Link to The Alan Turing Institute
The Alan Turing Institute is the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. Named in honour of Alan Turing, it builds on his pioneering work in mathematics, engineering and computing, which helped lay the foundations of modern data science and AI.

In Health, our current focus is transforming personalised healthcare. This includes pioneering digital representations of human hearts to improve care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, and using advanced analytics to generate insights into disease, patient and outcome variation.
Fundamental research provides the tools, methods and theory that support delivery across all three grand challenges.
Alongside developing world-class research, the Turing advocates for ethical research and development and leads the public conversation on the societal impact of AI and data science.
