Abstract

Is your research code (in Python) slower than you’d like it to be? Do you want to optimise your code performance, but you’re not sure how? This introductory level one-day workshop will show you how to assess where time is being spent during execution of a Python program and introduce good practices for optimising your code. It will also provide a high level overview of how code executes and how this maps to the limiting factors of performance.

Abstract

Research Data Science is a growing part of the research-software ecosystem. Many people working in this space sit between traditional research and research software engineering, applying statistics and AI, and building data-driven workflows to answer research questions. Inspired by the growing recognition of RSEs within research, we propose an adjacent initiative to define and recognise the role of Research Data Scientists (RDScis).
